Red sandalwood has been used for hundreds of years due to its deep blood red coloured wood and mystical healing properties.
Red SandalWood (Pterocarpus santalinus)
This tree naturally grows to about 20 to 25 feet high and is covered with rough bark. It is identified by its spikes of yellow flowers. Many plantations in southern India grow this type of tree due to its relative scarcity in the region.
Historians believe that this specie may have been the source of the sandalwood used in the construction of King Solomon’s temple.
